Pasco School District Mini Bilingual Conference

Engaging English Learners through Reading and Home-School Connections

This interactive session demonstrates the role of cultural and linguistic factors in the development of literacy skills and academic language for English Learners.  In addition to exploring the process of decoding texts (from the sentence level to the narrative level), participants learn how to use a sociocultural approach to diagnose and address student difficulties with reading in classroom contexts.  This workshop provides a variety of strategies for integrating home/community literacy practices into the classroom as a way to increase student engagement and motivation.
